| Obverse description | Central field displays the papal arms of Clement XI: a cartouche-shaped shield bearing a six-pointed star above a horizontal band with two keys in saltire, surmounted by the papal tiara and the crossed keys of St. Peter. The shield is flanked by elaborate baroque scroll-work and acanthus mantling. The circular Latin legend reads CLEMENS·XI·P·M·AN·XV, denoting Clement XI as Supreme Pontiff in his fifteenth regnal year. The coin's outer border is decorated with a continuous milled or reeded rim. |
