| Descrizione del dritto | Central field displays the narrow papal coat of arms of Alexander VII (Fabio Chigi), featuring the Chigi family device of six hills surmounted by an eight-pointed star on a vertically divided shield. The escutcheon is flanked by elaborate baroque mantling and surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys, rendered in the hammered style characteristic of mid-seventeenth-century Roman coinage. A beaded inner border frames the central device, with a further beaded outer border encircling the entire design. The Latin legend ·ALEX·VII· PONT·MAX· runs around the periphery, identifying the issuing pontiff as Alexander VII, Pontifex Maximus. |
