| Obverse description | Crowned bust of Philip II of Spain facing right, rendered in a schematic hammered style, occupying the central field. The portrait is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The circular Latin legend reads PHS·D:G·HISP·Z·REX·D·TORN·, identifying the king as Philip, by the grace of God, King of Spain and Lord of Tournai. The surfaces show typical irregularity and wear consistent with hammered copper coinage of the late sixteenth century. |
