| Descrizione del rovescio | A central round hole is flanked symmetrically by two facing lion heads in high relief, each set within a spray of leafy branches that extend laterally across the field. The Arabic denomination غرش وَاحد arcs across the upper field. Below the hole, the numeral 1 appears on either side of the Latin denomination PIASTRE, with the Gregorian year 1929 and the Arabic-Eastern numeral date ١٩٢٩ displayed in the lower field. The word ESSAI appears in the exergue, confirming the pattern status of this piece. A beaded border frames the entire design. |

The État du Grand Liban — Greater Lebanon — was a French Mandate territory carved out of Greater Syria in 1920, and its early coinage was struck at the Paris Mint under French administrative authority. The 1929 essai pieces were trial strikes produced to evaluate proposed coinage before authorized circulation issues were confirmed, a standard Monnaie de Paris practice. Very few essais from this series were distributed, almost exclusively to official recipients and collectors at the time of issue.
Lec#10 places this among the Leconte reference for French colonial and mandate essais — the small surviving population reflects production numbers typical of Paris trial pieces from the interwar mandate period.
