Informazioni aggiuntive	This 1929 pattern was struck in anticipation of Ethiopia's currency modernization under Haile Selassie I, then still ruling as Regent and heir apparent — Ras Tafari Makonnen would not be crowned Emperor until November 1930. Pattern issues from this transitional period were produced in limited numbers for approval purposes and rarely entered general circulation, leaving survivors almost exclusively in institutional or advanced private collections. The gersh denomination itself traces to a long-established Ethiopian monetary unit derived from the Maria Theresa thaler system that had dominated Horn of Africa commerce for generations.
