| Opis rewersu | Saint George, clad in armour and mounted on a prancing horse, is depicted in right-facing profile as he thrusts his lance downward into the writhing dragon prostrate beneath the horse's hooves. The figure of the saint dominates the central field, rendered with considerable relief characteristic of fine hammered goldsmith work. The surrounding legend in uncial Latin, reading from a rose mintmark, bears the devotional inscription TALI DICA SIGNO MES FLVCTVARI NEQUIT, meaning 'Consecrated by such a sign the mind cannot waver.' The design is contained within a plain inner circle, with the legend occupying the outer border. This reverse type, unique to the George Noble denomination, replaced the traditional reverse design of the Noble series with an explicit reference to England's patron saint. |
