Additional information

Gábor Báthori's reign over Transylvania was brief, violent, and ended with his murder in 1613 — shot by his own Hajdú soldiers while attempting to flee Várad. His erratic rule alienated the Transylvanian estates, the Ottomans, and the Habsburgs almost simultaneously, a remarkable political achievement in the wrong direction. The principality's silver coinage during these years was struck across multiple mints and in considerable volume, which explains the sprawling Resch reference numbers assigned to this type.
