Obverse description At center, the Vasa wheat sheaf emblem divides the denomination numeral on either side, all within a beaded inner circle. The sheaf serves as the dynastic symbol of the House of Vasa and is rendered in a characteristic crude hammered style typical of early Swedish copper coinage. A Latin legend encircles the design outside the beaded border, identifying the king by name and royal title.

Reverse description A rampant griffin with wings elevated, striding left, occupies the central field within a beaded or linear inner circle. The date appears below the griffin, contained within the inner circle. A Latin legend surrounding the outer border identifies the coin as a new copper issue of Nyköping, with a mintmaster's mark incorporated into the inscription. The design is executed in the rough, bold style characteristic of hammered Swedish klipping-era copper coinage.
