Additional information

Balthasar of Thuringia spent much of his reign entangled in the fratricidal disputes that characterized late Wettin politics, and his minting activity at Sangerhausen reflects a reign defined more by territorial negotiation than administrative stability. The Fürstengroschen type — a heavier grosch-sized issue asserting princely rather than merely civic authority — was a deliberate response to the proliferation of lighter regional groschen flooding Saxon and Thuringian trade routes in the 1390s.

Krug Mei#524 is not frequently encountered outside specialist collections.
