Additional information

East Frisia was absorbed into Prussia in 1744 following the extinction of the Cirksena dynasty, and Frederick II wasted little time reshaping its monetary output to reflect Hohenzollern authority. The Friedrich d'or series was Prussia's prestige gold coinage, modeled loosely on the French louis d'or in weight standard and social function — a coin for merchants and courts, not pocket change.

The East Frisian mint at Esens operated only briefly under Prussian administration before Frederick consolidated minting operations, which explains the narrow two-year window for this type.
