A raised inner circle frames the rampant lion of Ghent — the city's heraldic beast — depicted in bold relief facing left with forepaws raised and tail curled. The legend STAD = GENT · VILLE DE GAND runs around the inner circle in raised Latin letters, rendered in both Dutch and French to reflect the bilingual character of the issuing municipality. The corners of the square flan feature decorative foliate or geometric embellishments in the field. |
