| Obverse description | The obverse features the iconic Semeuse (Sower) effigy, designed by Louis-Oscar Roty, depicted in left-facing profile striding forward against a radiant rising sun. The allegorical female figure, dressed in flowing robes, is shown scattering seeds with her right hand while holding a staff in her left. The curved legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE arcs around the upper periphery, with the word ESSAI appearing in the left field. The engraver's signature O. Roty is inscribed at the base of the design. |
