| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of Prince Rainier III in right-facing profile, depicted in military uniform with epaulettes and braid visible at the truncation. The portrait is rendered in high relief in a naturalistic style by engraver Robert Cochet, whose signature R.COCHET appears in the left field. The circular legend RAINIER III PRINCE DE MONACO runs along the upper periphery, while the date 1960, flanked by two pellets, is inscribed along the lower rim. |

To the left of the shield, the denomination 1 FR is inscribed in two lines, with the word ESSAI placed above between the numeral and the currency abbreviation.
