| Obverse description | Laureate head of Napoleon III facing left, rendered in high relief with fine detail to the hair and laurel wreath, the ribbon of the wreath visible at the nape of the neck. The emperor is depicted with his characteristic imperial beard and moustache. The circular legend runs along the upper periphery, with the mint mark appearing at the lower right of the effigy. The engraver's signature BARRE appears in small capitals in the lower exergue, just inside the beaded border. |
