Obverse description Laureate head of Napoleon I facing right, rendered in high relief in the neoclassical style engraved by Pierre-Joseph Tiolier, whose signature appears in small lettering at the base of the truncation. The emperor is depicted with short curling hair beneath a laurel wreath, the ties falling behind the neck. The circumferential legend reads NAPOLEON EMPEREUR., separated from the toothed border by a fine raised rim.

Reverse description The denomination expressed as the numeral 1 over the abbreviation FRANC. is displayed prominently in the centre of the field, enclosed within an olive and laurel wreath tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The circular legend EMPIRE FRANÇAIS. arcs around the upper periphery, while the four-digit mint year appears in the exergue below the wreath, all contained within a toothed border. The mint mark appears below the date.
