Additional information

Marie-Adélaïde became Grand Duchess in 1912 at eighteen, following the death of her father Guillaume IV. This essai — a trial strike never approved for circulation — was produced as Luxembourg evaluated its coinage options in the months before the German invasion of August 1914 effectively halted any domestic monetary planning. The occupation suspended the question entirely.

The piece exists in very small numbers, struck for official evaluation rather than distribution.
