| 裏面の説明 | The denomination '1 Fr.' is inscribed in large characters at the center of the field, with the date of issue positioned directly below. The central inscriptions are encircled by an ornamental wreath composed of oak branches on the left and alpine rose (Rhododendron) branches on the right, the two sprays joined at the base by a flowing ribbon bow. The mint mark 'A' appears in the exergue below the ribbon. The entire design is enclosed within a finely milled border. |

Switzerland's federal coinage system was barely months old when these were struck. The 1848 constitution created the Confederation as a meaningful political union, and the 1850 Federal Coinage Act swept away the chaotic patchwork of cantonal currencies — over 800 distinct coin types had been circulating simultaneously. The Paris Mint struck the bulk of this series, as Bern lacked the capacity to handle federal production at scale.
The type was retired after just seven years when mounting silver prices made the .900 fineness economically unsustainable, leading directly to the reduced .800 standard adopted from 1860 onward.
