Reverse description The denomination BON POUR 1 FRANC is prominently displayed in the central field within an open laurel and olive wreath tied at the base with a ribbon bow. Below the denomination, the numeral 1 appears alone, representing the incomplete date of this essai piece, with only the first digit of 1897 struck. The engraver's signature A. BORREL appears in small capitals at the base of the wreath. The circular peripheral legend CONTRE-VALEUR DÉPOSÉE AU TRÉSOR runs around the outer border, attesting to the deposited guarantee backing the token's value. The overall composition is bold and well-centred, with the reeded border clearly visible.
