| 裏面の説明 | The reverse presents the crowned royal cipher of Grand Duchess Charlotte at center, formed by an interlaced monogram of the letter C surmounted by the grand ducal crown rendered in fine detail with alternating fleurs and beading. The denomination numeral 1 appears to the left of the monogram and the letter F. with a period to the right, together indicating one franc. A decorative garland of rose branches with blooms and foliage frames the lower portion of the field. The engraver's initials A.B. are discreetly placed at the base of the design. |

Essai pieces from postwar Luxembourg are frequently misunderstood as mere pattern curiosities, but the 1946 franc essais were produced as official trial strikes to evaluate proposed coinage designs for Charlotte's postwar monetary renewal — Belgium and Luxembourg were renegotiating the monetary union arrangements that had been disrupted by occupation. The silver composition was ultimately abandoned for the circulating issue in favor of cheaper alloys, making this essai a record of a monetary decision that went the other way.
