Opmerkingen

The Chambre de Commerce du Mans issued this note as emergency small-change currency — monnaie de nécessité — during the prolonged coin shortage that followed the First World War. French chambers of commerce across the country were authorized to issue fractional paper in denominations the Banque de France had no interest in supplying, and Le Mans was among dozens that did so between roughly 1917 and 1922.

Monnoyer was the local printer of record in Le Mans, used repeatedly by the Sarthe chamber across multiple denominations and series. The JP#69-18/19 reference distinguishes between two closely related types; misattribution between them is common in less carefully catalogued collections.
