Reverse description Printed in blue-violet on cream paper within a rectangular decorative border, the reverse presents a large central oval text block containing the guarantee clause, flanked by circular medallions bearing the numeral 1. Below the text block, an oval townscape vignette renders a panoramic view of Périgueux with the cathedral silhouette and a medieval tower at right. The names of the four principal towns of the Chambre's jurisdiction — PÉRIGUEUX, NONTRON, RIBERAC, SARIAT — appear in the upper corners, with the issuer's title running across the top of the composition.

Comments

French chambres de commerce were authorized to issue emergency small-denomination notes from 1914 onward as the war drained metallic coin from circulation almost immediately. The Périgueux chamber's franc notes were printed locally by Ronteix, a Dordogne lithographer with no particular specialized security printing background — which shows in the relatively modest execution compared to chambers that contracted with Parisian or larger regional firms.

The JP#98-18/19 reference covers two closely related varieties distinguished by minor typographic differences. Worth identifying carefully before cataloging.
