Wartime necessity drove French chambers of commerce across the country into currency issuance after 1914, when metal coinage vanished almost overnight — hoarded, melted, or consumed by the war economy. The Chambre de Commerce d'Aurillac et du Cantal was among dozens of regional bodies that stepped into the vacuum, producing small-denomination notes printed locally by Delostal & Germa rather than relying on distant national facilities stretched thin by military demands.
Félix Tourdes designed the series. The JP reference covers multiple date variants across the 1915–1920 window, making date identification the primary collector variable within this type.
