| Descrizione del dritto | Printed in red-orange on cream paper, the obverse is framed by an elaborate architectural border with Corinthian pilasters at each side and foliate ornamentation along the top. The centre field carries a large numeral '1' in deep red, flanked on either side by the denomination 'FRANC', set against a guilloche underprint of repeating circular medallions bearing a heraldic device. The issuer's title 'CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE D'AGEN' arches across the upper portion, with the date '14 JUIN 1917' in a cartouche at the base, and the manuscript signatures of the President and Treasurer appear above the serial number. |

Like hundreds of French chambers of commerce, Agen filled the coin vacuum created by wartime hoarding and metal requisitioning by issuing its own emergency fractional notes. The small-denomination coinage shortage that began in 1914 never fully resolved itself, which is why issues like this one were still being printed and circulated well into the early 1920s — the JP# series for Agen alone runs to multiple types across that window.
The watermark is the one security feature that distinguishes these from outright private scrip, placing them just inside the threshold of quasi-official currency.
