| 正面铭文 | 1 FR 1940 E.WIJNANTS |
| 背面描述 | Three heraldic shields representing the provinces of West Flanders, Namur, and Limbourg are displayed in the central field, arranged before a stylized tree whose trunk divides the bilingual legend. The legend 'BELGIE' appears to the left and 'BELGIQUE' to the right, presenting the country's name in both Dutch and French. The overall composition is symmetrical and heraldic in character, framed by a plain raised border. |

Belgium struck this issue in both 1939 and 1940, the latter year running directly into the German invasion of May 1940. Coins dated 1940 were produced at the Brussels mint before and possibly during the eighteen-day campaign that ended in Belgian capitulation on May 28th. The occupation authorities subsequently reorganized Belgian coinage entirely, replacing nickel with zinc — making this the last nickel franc before a years-long wartime substitution.
