The count holds a drawn sword upright in his right hand and rests his left hand upon a shield bearing the rampant lion of Flanders at lower right; a second heraldic device appears at lower left. The architectural canopy features pointed Gothic tracery with flanking turrets, and the lower portion of the field bears the inscription FLANDRES across a panel, with the denomination or mint indication below. The surrounding Latin legend, separated from the inner field by a beaded border, reads LVDOVIC DEI G COM Z DnS FLAnDRIE. |
