Obverse description The obverse is a repurposed postal stamp design issued as emergency currency, printed in green and brown. The central vignette presents a rural scene of Malagasy workers in a rice field, with a town visible on the hillside in the background. The denomination "1f." appears in a framed box at lower left, with the inscriptions "R F", "POSTES" at the top and "MADAGASCAR ET DEPENDANCES" along the lower border.

Reverse description The reverse is printed in black on plain paper stock and bears a central intaglio-style vignette of a zebu bull standing in profile, the characteristic humped Malagasy cattle rendered in fine line engraving. The denomination "1. franc" is inscribed vertically along the right margin, and the word "Iraimbilanja" — the Malagasy term for one franc — runs vertically along the left margin.
