| Obverse description | Kufic Arabic inscription arranged in two lines within a plain inner circle, referencing the authority of the Norman rulers of Sicily in the Islamic administrative tradition. The script is boldly struck in a characteristic Norman-Sicilian hybrid style. A beaded border frames the design along the outer edge of the flan. The coin exhibits the irregular, slightly uneven surfaces typical of hammered bronze coinage of the period. |
