The legend VICTORIA REGINA is incuse in raised letters around the periphery, divided left and right of the bust, with the date 1848 positioned in the exergue below. The whole is framed by a fine inner beaded border and an outer raised rim, characteristic of Royal Mint proof and pattern strikings of the period. |
