A naturalistically rendered kiwi bird, the iconic flightless symbol of New Zealand, is depicted in left profile, striding forward with its long curved beak inclined downward toward the ground line, the design executed with exceptional feather detail by George Kruger Gray. The bird occupies the central field, with a horizontal ground line beneath it. The legend NEW·ZEALAND arcs across the upper periphery, while the denomination ONE·FLORIN and the date, separated by raised dots, curve along the lower periphery. The engraver's initials KG appear in small letters to the lower right of the ground line, within the field. The entire design is enclosed by a beaded border. |
