The Austrian florin's days were numbered by the time these later dates were struck. The 1892 Austro-Hungarian currency reform replaced the florin system with the krone at a rate of two krone per florin, and production wound down accordingly. The decision was driven partly by alignment with the gold standard then sweeping European monetary systems — Austria-Hungary was among the last major powers to make the transition.

Dies for this type were produced at Vienna with notoriously tight tolerances, and the .900 silver planchets sourced largely from Bohemian refineries.
