Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Franz Joseph I facing right, wearing a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon at the nape. The emperor is depicted with sideburns and moustache in a finely engraved portrait attributed to Josef Tautenhayn. The circumferential legend reads FRANC·IOS·I·D·G·AUSTRIAE IMPERATOR, separated by a raised dot border on the outer rim. The mint mark 'A' (Vienna) appears at the base of the portrait below the truncation. The entire design is framed by a continuous beaded border.
