| Obverse description | The papal arms of Leo X (Medici shield bearing six balls, five in a quincunx pattern and one at top) displayed within a quadrilobe frame, surmounted by the crossed keys of St. Peter and the papal tiara. Two winged figures flank the shield as supporters. The entire device is rendered in high relief characteristic of hammered Renaissance goldsmithery. The surrounding legend reads: LEO X PON MAXIMVS, separated by pellets. |

| Reverse description | Saint Peter, nimbed and shown as an elderly bearded figure, seated in a small boat on stylized waves, actively engaged in drawing a fishing net. A second figure assists from within the vessel, referencing the apostolic calling of the fisherman. The composition is set within a plain inner circle, with the surrounding legend referencing Bologna's civic motto. The imagery evokes the traditional Bolognese reverse type that had been employed on local gold coinage for generations. |
