Innocent VIII — born Giovanni Battista Cibò — inherited a papacy financially hollowed out by Sixtus IV's wars and architectural ambitions, and the fiorino di camera issued under his name was the instrument through which the Camera Apostolica managed its accounts and settled obligations throughout the Papal States. The Macerata mint served the March of Ancona specifically, operating under delegated authority rather than direct Roman supervision.
His pontificate is better remembered for the 1484 bull Summis desiderantes affectibus, which formalized inquisitorial authority over witchcraft prosecutions in German territories — a document with consequences far beyond anything his treasury ever managed.
