| Popis rubu | Central field bears a large pattee cross with splayed, concave arms, centrally joined at a small raised pellet, occupying the majority of the coin's inner area. At the top of the inner field, above the cross, appears a small heraldic shield bearing the Balzana arms of Siena. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner ring, beyond which the circumferential legend in Gothic uncial characters reads ALFA ET O PRINCIPIVM 7 FINIS, a theological inscription referencing Christ as Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, with the Tironian et note used as an abbreviation. The overall composition follows the standard typology of the Sienese fiorino d'oro, closely emulating Florentine models. |
