Reverse description Central field depicts the figure of Saint John the Baptist, patron saint of Florence, shown standing in a devotional posture consistent with the Florentine florin tradition. The saint is rendered in a simplified, stylised manner characteristic of hammered gold coinage of the period. A papal tiara and crossed keys device appears above, reinforcing the pontifical authority of the issue. The surrounding legend S IOHANNES B, abbreviated for Sanctus Iohannes Baptista, is rendered in Gothic Latin capitals within the outer border, separated by pellet stops. The reverse design closely follows the iconographic conventions established by the gold fiorino of Florence.
