| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the elaborate calligraphic tughra of Sultan Selim III, rendered in high relief in the characteristic Ottoman style with elongated vertical strokes (beyze) and sweeping horizontal sere extending to the left. The tughra incorporates the sultan's name and titles in highly stylized Arabic script. The design is enclosed within a plain inner circle surrounded by a beaded border of uniform granules running the full circumference of the coin. The hammered flan displays a slightly irregular surface typical of late 18th to early 19th century Ottoman gold coinage. |
