Additional information

Faisal II was just eighteen when this coin was struck, still under a regency that had governed since his father's death in a 1939 plane crash. The 1953 issue appeared three years before the young king assumed full constitutional powers — and only five years before he was killed in the 1958 revolution that ended the Hashemite monarchy in Iraq entirely. Coins bearing his name thus span a reign defined almost entirely by transition and instability.
