| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field features the numeral '١' (1) enclosed within a raised circle, flanked by the denomination 'فلس' (Fils) in Arabic script. The legend 'إمارة الكويت' (Emirate of Kuwait) curves above in Arabic, while the English inscription 'KUWAIT' appears below the central motif. The design is clean and geometric, with inscriptions rendered in a formal, upright style typical of mid-twentieth century Gulf coinage. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Kuwait's first independent coinage, issued in 1961 immediately following the termination of the British protectorate agreement on June 19th of that year. The currency had previously been the Indian rupee, then the Gulf rupee — a reserve currency administered by the Reserve Bank of India specifically for the Gulf states. When India devalued the Gulf rupee in 1959, Kuwait accelerated its push for a sovereign monetary system, resulting in the Kuwaiti dinar and this fils coinage appearing within two years of that devaluation.
