Reverse description Standing crowned figure of the Virgin Mary facing front, the Christ Child held in her left arm, occupying the full height of the coin's field in a hieratic, stylized Gothic manner typical of late medieval Baltic coinage. The Virgin is depicted in flowing robes with a radiate crown above her head. A continuous circular legend in Gothic uncial script surrounds the figure, invoking Mary as protectress of the people. The design reflects the strong Marian devotional tradition of the Teutonic and Livonian orders.
