The Sede Vacante issues of Dorpat were struck during the vacancy between bishops — in this case following the death of Johannes III Bertkow in 1515, before the installation of his successor. The chapter governed temporarily, and the coinage struck in that interval carried no bishop's personal arms or name, making these pieces administratively distinct from the surrounding episcopal series. Dorpat's mint output was closely tied to Livonian trade networks, and interruptions in episcopal authority often meant compressed striking windows.
Haljak's second edition remains the authoritative reference for Baltic German coinage of this period; the Fed#30 cross-reference places this firmly within the Livonian ferding sequence.
