Additional information

Johannes V Blankenfeld held the Dorpat see only briefly before his ambitions outran his tenure — simultaneously appointed Archbishop of Riga in 1524, he spent his remaining years entangled in a jurisdictional war with the Livonian Order that ended with his flight from the region entirely. He died in 1527 in Spain, en route to plead his case before Charles V. Coins struck under his authority in Dorpat therefore span a narrow and politically turbulent window.

The Ferding denomination was peculiar to the Baltic ecclesiastical mints of this period, functioning as a regional fractional unit without direct parallel elsewhere in the Holy Roman monetary system.
