A circular Latin legend surrounds the entire design, reading GOTHARD · D · G · M · LIVONI, identifying Gotthard Kettler as Master of Livonia by the grace of God. The legend is executed in Gothic letter forms within a plain inner border. The flan is slightly irregular, typical of hand-struck silver issues of mid-sixteenth-century Livonia. |
