Kwangsi (Guangxi) operated with considerable autonomy from the Beiyang government in Beijing throughout this period, and its provincial mint issues reflect that independence. The 1919 brass fen belongs to a series produced as the province cycled through successive warlord administrations — Lu Rongting controlled the region at this point, having consolidated power across much of the southwest.
