Additional information

Freetown Christiania, the self-declared autonomous neighborhood in Copenhagen established by squatters in 1971 on a former military base, has issued its own coinage intermittently as acts of political identity rather than functional currency. The Danish government has tolerated Christiania's existence through decades of uneasy negotiation, including a 2011 agreement that allowed residents to collectively purchase much of the land — a rare legal accommodation that gave the community unexpected permanence.

The "Fed" denomination is Christiania's own invention, untethered to any exchange rate.
