Additional information

Freetown Christiania, the self-declared autonomous neighborhood in Copenhagen established in 1971 after squatters occupied a former military base, has issued its own currency intermittently since the 1970s — less as a functioning monetary instrument than as a assertion of separateness from the Danish state. The "Fed" denomination is a deliberate inversion of establishment finance, the name a sardonic nod to the U.S. Federal Reserve.

The 2015 silver issue is a collector piece with no serious circulation history. Christiania has faced repeated Danish government attempts at dissolution, most intensively in the early 2000s, and its symbolic coinage has outlasted several of those efforts.
