Obverse description Within a roughly square hammered flan, the initials 'YT' (for Youghal Town) appear in the central field, separated by a pellet ornament. The design is enclosed by a border of pellets arranged in a circle, with a small bird device positioned above the lettering, serving as a municipal badge or issuer's mark. The execution is characteristic of the crude emergency coinage of the Irish Confederate Wars period, with considerable die-crudeness and surface irregularity typical of refuge issues.
