Obverse description Facing crowned bust of King Richard III rendered in crude hammered style, the king depicted with a three-arched crown above a frontal visage. The effigy is set within a beaded inner circle, with a Latin legend distributed around the periphery. The portrait is characteristically schematic for late medieval English farthings, with minimal facial detail owing to the small module of the flan. The surrounding legend reads + RICARD DI GRA REX, identifying the monarch by name and divine right.
