附加信息

This is one of the Scottish provincial coppers issued in the early 1790s to address a chronic shortage of regal small change — the Royal Mint had effectively abandoned farthing production for decades, leaving Scottish tradesmen and manufacturers to commission their own tokens. The Edinburgh issues of this period were struck in quantity by private contractors, almost certainly in Birmingham's Soho or Parson Street die shops, which supplied the majority of provincial token dies across Britain during this window.

Atkins 56 and Batty 1158 cross-references confirm this as a well-documented variety within the Lothian series, though collector attrition has made clean survivors harder to locate than the mintage volume alone would suggest.
