| Obverse description | A royal crown displaying five jewels on the circlet, with two crossed sceptres passing through its base. A pellet appears between the sceptre handles in the field. A privy mark in the form of a cross patée is positioned at approximately 7 o'clock, immediately preceding the abbreviated legend. The inscription IACO begins at this point and continues around the coin, representing the name of King James I in Latin. Three obverse legend varieties are recorded: IACO: D: G: MAG: BRI:, IACO: D: G: MAG: BR:, and IACO: D: G: MA: BRI. |
