| Obverse description | Central device of an imperial crown surmounting two crossed sceptres, the whole set within a beaded inner circle. The royal title legend in Latin capital letters runs around the periphery, divided by the crossed sceptres into two arcs. A small cross pattée appears above the crown as a privy mark. The design is characteristic of the crudely-struck Harrington patent farthings of James I, struck by hammering on an irregular planchet. |
